River Rock

Sit beside you, river rock
Enjoying this vacation
Though your surface is so dull
You shine Apollo's lumination

Rest against you, pallid stone
Footing fortunately found
Your stoic company much preferred
To mindless river rushing around

Sift between your river reeds
Hear lapping waters chime
Round as a cradled fawn
But wise and old as time

Step upon you, alabaster
Gathering moss upon the view
Some believe that rocks are dense
But the underworld is within you

Stand upon you, unmoving boulder
Examining your scars
You are the moon in the night sky
River shimmers are the stars

You remain below, under tip toes
I have no sense of fear
High above you, river rock
But you helped me rise up here

Slip upon you, river rock
Head-first into the stream
Friction washed away, lament
You were jagged, once upon a dream

Blood upon you, river rock
You meditate near this creek
How can I know your torment
If you cannot speak?
